Everyone likes to be appreciated. It makes them feel good not only about themselves but about the job they are doing and helps them feel more invested in their work. Statistics show that organizations with the most sophisticated recognition practices are 12 times more likely to have strong business outcomes. So, if rewarding your team is important not only for your employees but for the health of your business, here are some ways you can celebrate the successes of your team and show them that you value them.
- Make it fun. Nobody loves to go in to work and sit behind a desk for 8 hours/ 5 days a week. People want to have fun. Make the work environment a place your employees want to be and create a positive vibe. Ask them what you can do better to make a more positive, exciting work environment. Let them give their ideas and follow through on some of their wishes.
- Celebrate. Don’t just celebrate the large accomplishments of the team. Celebrate small individual successes as well. Take the time to recognize individuals during meetings and let everyone know who has done a job well. Put together an employee recognition program and something to work hard for. Giving individuals a gift card, an afternoon off or even just a simple thank you card for a job well done shows them you value them and you are invested in their success.
- If your team has some form of emotional connection and feels more connected they are more likely to want to work together and will most likely work harder. Bring your team together so they value each other. Put together team outings, drinks after work, take them out to lunch, once monthly BBQ, or bowling parties. A team that can play well together and have fun will most likely work better together in the office and will increase overall motivation.
- Be active in your team’s growth. Being an active part of your team will not only be fruitful and motivating for them but it will also be fruitful for your business. Learn what motivates each person. As stated by Rick Pitino, “The only way to get people to like working hard is to motivate them. Today, people must understand why they’re working hard. Every individual in an organization is motivated by something different.”
A winning company celebrates the accomplishments of those within the company. Bringing a positive fun vibe to your company, making it an environment where employees want to come every day is a win, win for all. Happy employees = more productive employees. More productive employees = a win for your business.
